First train to Steilacoom. Second stop on "Tacoma Water-Grade Route" originating in Tacoma and reaching Tenino on the "water" route, and returning to Tacoma through Yelm and Rainier on the "prairie" route. Celebrations were held at eight stops along the route, including a 15-minute celebration at Steilacoom.

Tacoma-Steilacoom streetcar stop at Chambers grist mill. Body of water is Chambers Creek bay, at the far end of which is currently the Northern Pacific bridge. The photo is taken from the grist mill, and the puncheon road was used for carrying grist mill products to the loading dock shown at water's edge.
