The following are collectively known (in 2009 as this web page was published) as the "Contemporary Women of Steilacoom."  The women presented progams about early 20th century Steilacoom women and their impact on town history.  The lectures focused on contributions made by Hattie Bair, Clenda Davidson, Janet Tait, Dr. Mary Perkins, Joan Curtis, Janda Volkmer, and Gladys Parker.  To learn more about these women, click on the narrative link associated with their photos above.  A complete copy of the lectures is available in Women of Steilacoom (available in the SHMA gift shop) a booklet sponsored by the Women's History Consortium of Washington State as part of the state's Suffrage Centennial (see more information at  www.washingtonhistory.org).  Shanna Stevenson is coordinator for the state-wide project.  A book about women's contributions to the vote in Washiongton State is availalbe at the State History Museum in Tacoma.
