Named for Wm. A. Callahan, first superintendant of the state prison when the the federal prison was leased to the state in 1981. Ownership was transferred in 1984.
The photos in this category are related to the federal penitentiary built on McNeil Island in 1875. Operation of the prison was turned over to the state in 1981.
